Hats off to the art team for another bath of awesomeness!
I have to admit, it's a little odd collection of recolored items, though I do like and appreciate them anyway. :3
Jardana looks like an overgrown treasure lost in the jungle, if only she had a ribbon made of vines or something now lol.
I know the art team works very hard to provide us with so many new things, what feels like almost monthly. But I can't help but wonder if the themes of the extravaganzas are created around what items can be rehashed. Not that I don't appreciate them all the same of course, but I wonder what creative themes people could come up with if items weren't an issue? I for one would rather have a completely new and fun theme as to ones that are similar to previous ones. In my opinion I would leave out all the new items and just have a unique theme, and maybe for those who participated in the games, there can be just one exclusive item that's handed out. That sounds more rewarding to me than just having the art team recolor older items that I can pick up in the store.
Oh well, guess that means I need possibly sign up for the next extravaganza rotation so I can be the one participating in the show. >:)
Ack, I forgot to add the most important part. I meant to say I'm looking forward to the games starting! I'm going to play as many as I can.
Perhaps you should ask the coloring team because it's no small task to make items for the site to work on all the ponies much less recoloring, touch ups and making sure layering and everything else works as it should.
I for one am always dissapointed to see there is always at least one person with negative things to say after people have worked so hard to bring new treats to the site. They are treats after all. Not like it's required we get anything. It's impolite and unnecessary in my opinion.
I for one am very thankful for all the new items! I love the plushie!!! Blue stuffed critters. My daughter will insist all her ponies have one. Thanks so much to all on the art crew for all your hard work. It's not a small task!
This is not the case at all. There are tons of unique items created specifically for Extravaganza events all the time, so obviously the items are not limiting the themes. In fact, the theme is determined first, and then what items will be needed are chosen from there. Some times it means unique items, some times it means recolors.
Quote Aedhagan Rose:
I wasn't exactly saying anything negative, it was just an opinion and Fluffybubblefish corrected me by saying that the theme is chosen first, I actually didn't know that, it's just how it appears. I'm glad to be corrected. I said twice that I'm perfectly appreciative by all the items and I know how much work goes into them. I even suggested they could do less work if they wanted, by only doing one item instead of multiples, or even none at all.
I find it funny that if anyone remotely says anything more than just praise, that it's considered negative and an attack against the site. I wasn't saying anything rude or trying to belittle the artists, I was just giving a opinion and a suggestion.
I know this is all a treat, I wasn't asking for more work to be done. >_< Sorry if I offended anyone.
As someone on both the art team and the festival crew (and so pleased--though busy!--to be there!) I can say that the PaintBrush does not decide festival themes, or have any input in them (though sometimes we do make new items or work with LNS to think of good ones once we're given the theme). If you look back at the previous festivals, some have tons of new items (like the Renaissance, four new wearable items!) and some have fewer.
Plus, some of the items are very popular and the current on the forums is that people want to see them back. We (including the Extravaganza crew, who also brainstorms item ideas) do like to focus on what people want--and in this case, museum was a great opportunity to reuse items, since...well, you can find a lot of awesome stuff in a museum!
Ah, see that's a good different perspective. I didn't really think of it that way that there are certain items people want back so this was a good reason to recolor them. I mean, from my point of view, it's still an odd mix of items if you just look at them as is. Something from the prehistoric theme, something from the tea party theme, something from the renaissance theme, it just seems like a mishmash to me, but indeed it does look like they belong in a museum so it works!
I really wasn't trying to be rude and I tried to be as gentle as possible when making my post because I know it's a lot of work to do what the artists and the extravaganza crew do. But just imagine if items weren't needed at all, then the theme could be absolutely anything.
I don't know, I'm just babbling now, I at least know a little better how the inner workings of how things are set up and ran now.
I always appreciate what the site does, specially everyone that volunteers and isn't paid anything, but that doesn't mean I can't add a little suggestion or thought here or there too. ^^
H.M says thank you he feels all special now that he has a snake wrap just like his Blood buddy B.A
I didn't see it as rude. I know that sometimes the inner workings of things are really unclear--sometimes for a reason (sekkrits!) but often just because no one's asked and so no one knows.
Probably it's just that it's a topic more fit for Discussion rather than the News post, which is generally people enjoying the items and news.
I just wanted to add to this a bit 'cuz I like bein' all educational.
I don't think it's negative to want more. Heck, I would! But as artists, we're all part-time volunteers. I work an 8-hour day and sometimes when I come home, I just want to sleeeeep. So it's very nice for us when a festival is chosen where we can give you guys more items, while taking some of the work out of creating them, hence, re-colors.
I myself love making new items! But extravaganzas happen 4 times a year, and with the other holidays (Especially Advent, Christmas and PI Birthday) making 100% brand new items every time is hard. A lot of the items are designed in a way that they can all be c/p'd onto the ponies and tweaked a bit, because even doing that, it takes hours to re-color and then correctly place the items onto each template. There are a total of 36 of those.
All in all, I'm GLAD you want more items, though, 'cuz it means we're doing our job well.
Also, re: Missing plushies on the dragons: Yeeeaaah, that was my bad. They'll be there soon.
oops, CK posted on a sub. :|
Well, I'm broke now
I love the snake wrap! It was the last perfect item Radium needed Now he's fully accessorized.
You're right, I actually wasn't sure where to post it. I was actually more concerned of posting it in discussion because I'd guess that even more people would consider it an attack on PI. And also, sometimes threads get deleted if it's concerning something that's already in the news post.
Thank you for even more clarification, CK, I'm happy to actually learn about these things instead of being ignorant. I definitely understand that it's a lot of work, and you guys are just volunteers, not being paid so it's something done on spare time. I honestly wasn't asking for more items, I was going in the other direction to lighten the load? But you guys are definitely doing a great job, who wouldn't want more fun stuff?
Thank you to everyone that chimed in, I'll just end by saying I enjoy the new things and I'm sure the party will be much funs.
i have always loved when we get re-coloured items! it's so cool since it's like a chance to get an item again and sometimes in larger numbers! or to get that item in the perfect colour for another pony!
Well I do apologize for my part. It sounded negative to me but now that things have answered and further explained, I apologize.
Very cute theme and I love the new items! I love re-colored items, it's so cool to be able to use my favorite items on more ponies.
Eee, these items are so adorable, even when re-colored!
Thanks to everyone who made this extravaganza possible.
Ooo... what a fun theme! Also I must say thank you to PB crew for such wonderful items! I am truly loving these!
Ishmahel looks fabulous in his new gauntlets!
There's a festival coming up? Wow, I guess we gotta start planning over on the 'ganza team. :D:D
I adore the items, especially necklaces. They remind me of some sort of tribal/aztec/indian tribe/ritual sort of.. thing. It's perfect for one of my characters. Yay!
Guys, I think this is definitely my favourite plushie!! Here are my ponies wearing it, it's such a sweet plushie, I love her expression! I didn't get to try and fit the other beautiful items on ponies but as soon as I saw the plushie I knew I must dress them up! Thank you so much for the new stuff! It's brilliant!
I am very happy to get recolours of any items we have because I have many favourites and so I really always hope for recolours
Edit: I also love the 'did you know...' theme we seem to have got going in the item descriptions
I just would like to say, I LOVE the new items.. especially the guantlets.. I loved them the first time and they're even better this time around.
Thanks for all the hard work you all do. I love PonyIsland so much.
