Well I recently tried to download a free version of winrar. I thought the site was reliable but was soon as I pressed download my virus software started going crazy, it ran it's own checkup without me starting it. It said one threat detected and removed. I decided to download 7zip instead, the version I downloaded worked fine nothing happend with my virus checker or anything. What I was using it for wasn't working so I just gave up and uninstalled everything. Then my computer started being really slow and I couldn't exit out of anything. I had to do a force shutdown. My computer appeard to be fine but I just opened up a new tab, and the boxes that allow me to click on my most visited sites are sites that I haven't gone to in months!
I'm not sure of what to do. Is it cause I did a force shut down or did I download a virus? O.o Any help?

| Kill it! Kill it with fire! I would run all your anti-virus softwear just to be sure. Also I would check if you happened to download something else with winrar (Like a stupid toolbar or something). Check this vid Add/remove programmes and if you do find something that doesnt belong, kill it.    |

 | It isn't necessarily a malware problem. Virus scanners sometimes are triggered by fairly innocuous stuff, because it's a better safe than sorry thing. I think the symptoms you describe could possibly be caused by other things too. I'd still double check to see if everything's clean, but if your virus scanner doesn't come back with anything, I wouldn't be too worried. If you still have the history of what your virus scanner picked up, you can try googling sites like Symantic's, which has a list of known threats, see if they have a record of what it is. |
