Every Saturday night, such as tonight, my friends and I get together to play D&D 4.0.
Our DM is planning a party wipe because we've gotten too powerful. So, we're all starting to think about what our next characters should be.
I don't do well with ranged or magic using classes. Thief, Fighter, and Barbarian are my favourite classes as they are the rough and tumble types. Which I'm very good at.

My current character is a Fighter.

So, I ask you, PI. What should I be next?

I would go for a theif, so many different ways to play your character with that class. My husband plays 4.0, or at least he does when he has the time.

I'd personally go with thief, always a good choice.

I'd say Thief. They're pretty different from Fighter or Barbarian and as someone else mentioned, you can go ranged, melee, or a bit of both. Also, you can roll for Bluff to get Combat Advantage. I played a Scout once, which is a "sub-class" of Thief, and I loved it! :happy

Also, though you said you dislike magic casters, I would note that Sun Domain Clerics want to get right up into the fray most of the time (though they want the fighters to run in first, allowing them to follow up with a flank.) All of their special effects run off hitting their enemies with a melee weapon. Only Healing Word works independent of that. :XD

Btw, have you guys considered trying other gaming systems as well? I know that it can be a little expensive, depending on what you decide to try out, but D&D is only one of MANY dice systems out there. It's a nice introductory game and I play Encounters at my local gaming store every week (I've also played many unofficial D&D games before I got into Encounters) but I've had a lot of fun with other stuff too and I really wish I had a more regular gaming group that'd stick together so I could try out some more (I really want to give the One-Roll-Engine and Deadlands Classic a try but never really had the chance.)

If you want some recommendations, I can offer some to consider. If not, that's fine. :3

Thief due to its versatility, plus it matches my allignment of chaotic neutral.

I know all about thieves. With our old group, I played a thief and loved it. I've also played a barbarian in the past, which I also greatly enjoyed.

And yes, we've played many other dice games. PathFinder, D&D 3.5, Rogue Trader, Inquisitor, and World of Darkness.
World of Darkness and D&D 4.0 were the only ones I really got into though. I'm not a War Hammer fan, so Rogue Trader didn't appeal to me much.

Boyfriend and I have been into dice games for quite a long time. It's just really fun and a great way to spend time with friends!

Sorry! I didn't mean to come off sounding like a know-it-all. There's a ton of them out there with a wide variety of themes and game mechanics, which is why I asked. And I agree; it is a great way to spend time with friends! :XD

Don't worry. You didn't come off that way. Tomorrow, I think I'll be posting a drawing of my World of Darkness character actually.. She's awesome.

Actually, they do have Sorcerers. Players Handbook 2. I'm not a sorcerer person myself, but one of the guys in my group is a sorcerer. He's not very good at it though. He has no idea how to actually play a sorcerer.

In pen and paper DnD I like to go with a ranger but in most online games I lean towards fighter.
