Entry to this contest has now CLOSED. Matchmaker is a gentlepony, well educated and a bit of a geek because he spends so much of his time studying colours and charts. However...not all his family are so respectable. His long-lost cousin is, in fact, a criminal who is intent on carrying out jewel robberies and casting shame on the family name. Matchmaker and his nefarious cousin parted company a long time ago, but now, the Evil Cousin has returned...
Matchmaker sipped his morning coffee, seated at the kitchen table with his large and rather unruly but happy family, leafing through a newspaper, paying scant attention as a food fight broke out at the other end of the table amidst much guffawing and giggling, and a piece of doughnut flew past his ear. Suddenly his eyes were caught by a lurid headline. Daring Jewellery Heist! it read. Then below: Local jewellery store "Spangly Dangles" was robbed of priceless items and PG by a gang of thieves yesterday just before closing time. He nearly spluttered coffee all over the table as he read further: It is believed the heist was carried out by the notorious Colour Bandit Gang. The Colour Bandit was accompanied by three to five other ponies, shocked eye witnesses said. They have been treated for nausea and vertigo caused by the gang's notorious outfits of swirling multi-colour patterns and are understandably dazed and hence unsure of exactly how many accomplices there were. One pony had to have emergency treatment for complete loss of fashion sense, something he may never regain.
"Quiet! Quiet children! There's been a terrible event," Matchmaker said in such a distressed tone that even his naughtiest foals stopped their game and stared at their father nervously. "It appears my cousin, and I am loathe to even admit we are related, has appeared from exile and has once more gone on a crime spree. I am shocked and appalled that the Colour Bandit Gang has raided Spangly Dangles in our town. Of course, there's a reward out for their capture. We must do all we can to help the forces of the law apprehend them."Can you help? Already some local criminals have been rounded up for an identity parade, but the real Colour Bandit isn't amongst them:  You'll need to use a Matchmaker descendant in order to breed your Colour Bandit, as well as various starters. To enter, just post your name in this thread!Contest Rules:1. Your aim is to breed an Earthie pony that represents Matchmaker's evil cousin, the Colour Bandit. 2. You must start out with a MountainPony starter and a pure Earthie starter (either a DC or SV). You can gen or buy either or both of these, that's up to you. No DVSOs or TVSOOs or variations thereupon, please! You may use any starter you have that is already in your stables, you don't need to buy one specially if you have one you wish to use. 3. You must also use a Matchmaker descendant in your breeding line (DON'T breed him/her to your initial MountainPony!), but he/she cannot be more than 2 generations from Matchmaker himself. If you already own one, it's fine to use him or her. Please post him/her and a profile link in the contest thread when you have decided. See FAQ below for more details. (Edited for clarity) 4. Your final pony must show the Tarantula BrSgene, which must be colorized (so Body slot will be PColorize and Tarantula). He or she must also show another Sgene, either colorized or uncolorized, the choice of Sgene is totally up to you. 5. Your final pony must not be inbred but can of course be mixed breed with MountainPony (only MountainPony is acceptable in the pedigree along with Earthie.) You may use more than one MountainPony if need be, but keep to starters, please. 6. Your entry must be related to Matchmaker himself somewhere in the pedigree. 7. Your final pony can be male or female! Matchmaker never revealed the gender of his cousin. 8. Colour choice is totally up to your imagination - what would the bandit look like? You decide! 9. If you breed the winning entry he or she will come to live in the Matchmaker stables. Entries that are particularly pleasing will qualify as Gang Members, the rest as Local Felons, all of which may be kept by the breeder (see Reward section below for prize tiers). Added in: 10. Please enter only ONE pony as your final Colour Bandit entry. Choose wisely! Post his or her picture and profile URL in the contest thread, stating that the pony is your official contest entry. 11. Matchmaker's decision is final as to the winner and other prizes. Try to breed attractive, evil-looking ponies - impress me! To clarify what you need to start out this contest with:Quote :1. A Matchmaker descendant, either a son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter of Matchmaker. Use one if you already have one, if not, put a 0 bid in with Matchmaker with a starter Earthie that is SV for one Sgene or is double PColorize. If you prefer you can breed with one of his 4 sons that are up for stud:
Doodle, Squiggle, Sketch or Outline (clicky names).
Check profile URLs for info as to which Sgenes each carries.
2. A MountainPony that shows or carries the Tarantula BrSgene.
3. Another Starter Earthie that is either a DC or a SV[/u] that you will breed with your MountainPony. Don't breed your Matchmaker descendant directly to the MountainPony!.
Contest Closing Date: None as of now, breeding takes time and a definite date cannot be set in advance. However as the contest progresses I will set an end date, giving all entrants 6 weeks' notice as to the end of the contest to allow time to get in some final breedings. Doesn't matter what he or she carries, the only requirements are that your pony is pure Earthie, non-inbred and not more than 2 generations removed from Matchmaker (i.e. his grandson or granddaughter). Q. I don't have a Matchmaker descendant, how can I get one? A. Other people who own more than one may like to sell or gift you one, which is fine. Or you may breed yourself one by breeding a pure Earthie mare to Matchmaker. He will be up for free bid breed during this event. However - the Earthie mare you breed to Matchmaker must be a single visible (any Sgene), not a double carrier. This is to prevent Tarantula being introduced via this route. What if his offspring don't have the Sgenes I want? A. Yes you may have more than one breed, if you find your offspring aren't carrying suitable Sgenes. Q. Can my final pony entry be triple or quad visible instead of double? A. No. Please restrict your entry to just Colorized Tarantula and one other Sgene (either colorized or not). Q. Does it matter if my Matchmaker descendant already has one or more named offspring? A. No. Q. Does it matter how many generations it takes to breed the Colour Bandit? A. Nope. Q. In order to try to keep things as fair as possible, please only use starters (bought or genned by yourself) in the pedigree in order to introduce the Sgenes you need. The only pony in your pedigree that can have a longer line is your Matchmaker descendant (up to 2 generations from Matchmaker). The other (non-Matchmaker) side of the pedigree can be any length. No, you couldn't. Since MM said it can't be a "DC" and even if it is a single visible, if there is a chance it carries a second gene, that makes it a possible DC. A carrier of the gene under the visible one, and a possible second. This wouldn't work. So, realistically, it has to be an SVS starter earthie bred to Matchmaker, if you decide to breed to him. ETA: Question... I have selected my stud for the TV contest. If I bred a SVS pony to the same stud, could the two contests overlap? You know, if I wanted to make it even harder to determine what I want to breed with what? Also, totally in on the contest. Eoko and Prince Arthur will be the usual accounts. |

Yes I was just pondering that a moment ago - If you are going to use one of Doodle/Squiggle/Outline/Sketch to get a Matchmaker descendant for this contest (and that's perfectly fine) but you're also in the TV contest currently running, then obviously there could be some confusion on my part as you must only use ONE of those studs for the TV contest. In that case, just please post in this thread what you're doing, i.e. you want to breed with Squiggle, but your named stud is Doodle over in the TV contest. I will check up on who is breeding who, but at the end of the day it's the breeder's responsibility to make sure they double check the rules and be totally transparent about who they are breeding ponies with, otherwise the only loser will be themselves by inadvertently disqualifying themselves. As ever, if in doubt, ask! |
