![]() | The Basics There are four locations for visible Sgenes in PI. Hair, Body, Feet, and Face. These four locations have two spots each. One of the genes will always be Dominant and one will always be Recessive. That is how genetics work. (And PI's Sgenes are genetics in their most simple form, really.) Genes on PI do not have a "strength". There is no such thing as a "strong" carrier or a "weak" carrier. A pony either is a carrier or isn't. If a pony is a carrier, it has a 50% chance of passing that gene (it will either pass normal or the gene). When breeding two carriers, they each have 50% chance of passing the gene, so your chance of getting a visible baby is only 25%. When breeding for two carried genes on two ponies, each gene has a 25% chance of being visible, so your chance of BOTH genes being visible is 12.5%. Etc., etc.. A baby will inherit ONE gene for a location from its mother and ONE gene from its father. This may be a gene that is visible or a gene that is carried -- which is why it is not uncommon for genes to appear generations after the last pony with a visible gene. However, the only way to be CERTAIN that you have a carrier is to check for visible genes on the parents, or to do a lot of test breeding. (Test breeding in the above context is breeding a pony with another pony with a visible gene in the locus that you believe the gene is, not the toolbox test breeding.) Order of Dominance Hair: Stripe > Rainbow > Tips > MStripes > QStripes > HFade Body: PColorize > Paint > ZigZag > LDapple > HDapple > BFade > ClownFish* > Zebra* > Tarantula* > Monarch* > Fawn* > ZebraFinch* > Koi* Feet: SColorize > Socks> Stockings> Faded > Okapi Face: FColorize > Star> Freckles> Blaze > FFade * Breed Specific genes If your pony carries two genes from one line in the above chart, EXCEPT for the double colorize gene, they will be a visible Sgene in that location. A pony can carry ONE gene from a line and only be a carrier. A pony can carry ONE gene from EACH line and only be a carrier. But the minute that a pony "carries" TWO genes from ONE line, the pony will show a visible Sgene -- again EXCEPT for the double colorize gene. The double colorize, while "visible" and searchable can not be physically seen. Each Locus will be discussed in a separate post below. To go directly to the locus that you want, press "Ctrl+F" on your keyboard and search for: - Hair Genes for Hair Genes - Body Patterns for Body Genes - Feet for Leg Genes - Face Markings for Face Genes. - BrS Genes for details about the Breed Specific genes and which genes are native to which breeds. |

![]() | Breed Specific Genes (BrS Genes) Breed Specific genes function the same as all other SGenes except for one rather important thing. They can only be generated on the breed that they are native to. While all breeds can carry and show the BrS gene of a different breed, you will not be able to make a starter with the gene for another breed--not visible OR carried. Below are the genes shown on the breeds that they are native to. ClownFish Native to the Sea Ponies. In the colorized version, Extra 1 controls the wide white band while the Extra 2 controls the thin black band and black points. Zebra Native to the Unicorns. The colorized version works the same as other body genes. Tarantula Native to the Mountain Ponies. In the colorized version, Extra 1 controls the black band while the Extra 2 controls the white band. Monarch Native to the Winged Unicorns. In the colorized version, Extra 1 controls the white spots while the Extra 2 controls the black design. Fawn Native to the Reindeer. Genes get added when I have the time to sit down and go through the wall of code that is in each post since I not only have to update for the new entry, but also have to update every previous entry. Sometimes this is within days of release and sometimes it can take months. However, all genes work the same, and the news posts for each gene will explain where it falls in the order of dominance. |
